If it’s a denial, the letter should include the words “reasonable accommodation” and should clearly state a reason for the denial. Waiting too long to reply to a reasonable accommodation or modification request is considered to be a denial of that request. In addition, a request for a reasonable accommodation or modification may be denied if providing the accommodation or modification would impose an undue financial and administrative burden on the housing provider or it would fundamentally alter the nature of the housing provider’s program. A reasonable accommodation cannot be denied because it would be perceived as unfair to others or it might become burdensome if extended to others.
